Move cold sales pitches out of your inbox
The Cold sales template moves cold pitches and unsolicited demo requests to MailRules Trash, but only when the model is at least 90% sure.
A high bar on purpose
Cold pitches are easy for a person to spot and hard to describe as conditions. They come from new addresses, with friendly subjects. The template describes them in a sentence and lets the model decide. Because the action is trash, it only acts when the model is at least 90% sure. Anything below that stays in your inbox and shows up in Needs review.
When to change it
If you work in sales or buy services often, some pitches are welcome. Add the “replied to the sender before” exception so anyone you have written to is never touched. If you would rather skim pitches than lose them, change the action to a move into a folder such as Pitches.
What it catches
- Pitches from people offering a service you did not ask about.
- "Quick question" and "15 minutes next week?" emails asking for a call or demo.
- Follow-ups to pitches you never answered.
What it leaves alone
- Anything the model is less than 90% sure about. That waits in Needs review instead of being moved.
- Senders you told MailRules to keep in your inbox. Sender rules are checked before any rule like this one.
- Newsletters and promotions from companies you have a relationship with.
- Note: the template does not check whether you have emailed the sender. Add the exception under What you can change if you want it.
What you can change
- Add the exception "Except when I've replied to the sender before", so anyone you have written to stays out.
- Raise the confidence even higher, or lower it if too much waits in Needs review.
- Move pitches to a folder instead of trash, if you sometimes buy from them.
- Reword it, for example "Cold sales pitches, except about hiring".
Questions
Does it delete emails?
No. By default trashed mail goes to a normal folder called MailRules Trash, which your provider does not empty. If you switch that setting off, it goes to your server's Trash folder instead, which some providers empty after a while.
Why 90%?
Trashing a real email costs more than missing a pitch. The template sets its own 90% threshold, higher than the default for other rules.
Can I undo it?
Yes. Each action is logged and can be undone, which moves the email back where it came from.
